No matter what faith you belong to, everyone recognizes when they are standing in a sacred place. Sacred places give us an understanding of who are, the people who came before us, the values they have passed on to us which we share. Even if our beliefs vary depending on our tradition, we all share core values.

The Basilica of St. Josaphat, once the spiritual home to Milwaukee’s largest population of Polish immigrants, is one of those places. For more than a century it has stood, rich in history and beauty, anchoring the Lincoln Village neighborhood on the city’s near south side.

Today, in addition to being a welcoming house of worship, the Basilica serves this increasingly diverse community through operating a school, food pantry and meal program, providing ESL classes, serving as a community meeting place, hosting performances of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, the Bel Canto Chorus and others, and drawing visitors from near and far.
